| No. LIGO simply will try to measure gravity waves and Gravity Probe B
is
| testing some aspects of General Relativity like frame dragging.
|
| The magazine "New Scientist" recently reported that some accelerator
had
| created a mini black hole. That story was picked up by "Scientific
| American" among other news sources and a discussion ensued about the
| morality of "creating something as dangerous as a black hole on
earth". As
| it turns out, according to AIPS, the guys that actually know what it
was
| all about, the "New Scientist" had simply made up the story.
Fabricating
| stories seems to be a habit with "New Scientist".
|
| Bottom line, don't worry about black holes in the near future. They
are hard
| to make (require very high gravity) and it is unlikely that humans
will
| master gravity enough to make one any time soon.

Perhaps Timelord should actually read the May issue of SciAM article
about "Quantum Black Holes" and some of the references mentioned. LHC
at CERN might be making mini-black holes in the not too far future. No
big problem though, if they can make them, then they most likely are
being made already by nature in our upper atmosphere.
