not the issue.

Yes. Run a tape backwards.
Mathematically, an example:
>From Doppler,
c+v
f' = f---------
c
1-2
f' = 1 * -------------
1
= -1
When v = -2, the source is receding from the observer.
c and v are of course vectors.
t is not a vector, it has no inverse.
