I repeat it here:

I mentioned the cosmic muons because they offer a good evidence for
time dilation. If you interpreted the null result of the MMX in terms
of time dilation, you would get t(x)' = t(x) * sqrt(1-v^2/c^2), with
t(x) = L/(c-v) + L/(c+v) = (2L/c) * 1/(1-v^2/c^2), for the total time
required by the wave moving along the x,x'-axis. Hence, the factor
sqrt(1-v^2/c^2) clearly applies to time, not to length.
Physically, t(x)' = t(x) * sqrt(1-v^2/c^2) is not equivalent to
L' = L * sqrt(1-v^2/c^2), even if both expressions explain the null
result.
By applying sqrt(1-v^2/c^2) to time AND to length, the two light paths
would not be equalized, and a fringe shift would be observed.
Thus, any hypothetical experiment that would detect length contraction
would in fact detect time dilation.
