In the case of Galilean Relativity, the invariant speed c is
infinite, so the relativity principle did in fact lead to an
invariant speed in Newton's day, though it's easy to see why the
significance of this *mathematical fact* was not appreciated at
the time. Dirk Vdm gave a nice link to a proof of this several
