For some time now I have been interested in if gauge symmetry actually
implies Maxwell's Equations. I have read claims it does but have not seen
the derivation. Well it being Easter I decided to splurge and purchase one
of the articles that claims it can be done. So I purchased the following
paper
http://scitation.aip.org/getabs/servlet/GetabsServlet?prog=normal&id=AJPIAS000046000004000342000001&idtype=cvips&gifs=yes
After a quick look I am afraid the abstract is slightly misleading - as the
paper itself says (in fine print mind you - note 22):
'Some assumptions as to simplicity must enter into the theory.'
The devil is always in the detail. Ah well interesting article anyway. If
anyone wants a copy post an email address and I will send it. Of course I
believe such derivations are very worthwhile but in some sense what I have
heard people quoting Jackson as saying - 'such proofs are silly' seems to
have some validity.
Thanks
Good thread, specially taking into account the Faked
Dyslexic's panic attack.
I know I have some major freshing up to do, but can
you send me the article, so I can stash it away in my
TFML folder? Thanks for sharing :-)
