You may want to try another theory that gives the why, how and
wherefore of the strong force --- with an equation for it that
coincides with experiment.
It also explains gravity and shows the how and why of action at a
distance. It turns out to be an illusion.
It also predicts the density of neutrons --- as confirmed
astronomically by the density of neutron stars.
