Actually, such explanations can not be in conflict with SR and he wasn't
the first with such an approach. But watch out: probably due to old age
he
really lost his mind with "Mathematical Error in the Lorentz
Transformation". Happily you can avoid that delusion by using the
way-back
machine of archive.org, down to a web site version from before he messed
up so badly. Or simply limit yourself to reading the stuff that he
actually managed to get published in peer reviewed journals.

I don't agree with everything he said but the point is his approach to
physics was a reality based one. No mysticism like static 4d spacetime.
