Not so.

The Lorentz Contraction-Aether Theory depends on the aether -- the
special theory of relativity does not.

Therefore, falsifying the aether theory does not falsify the special
theory. In other words, the socalled special case is not an integral
part of the special theory, therefore its demise has no effect on the
special theory.

It amazes me, this hardcore atavism that attempts to hold on to an
obviously dead theory.
Why not tout the existence of tachyons? Why not declare the existence
of phlogiston? We might even try to prove the correctness of Ptolemy's
epicycles. We might also declare that sight emanates from the eyes.

In religion we accept that which we cannot see or detect. This is
unallowable in physics.
The aether theory is based on a far reaching imagination -- nothing
more. The fact that all attempts to detect it have failed proves it
doesn't exist -- especially since physics does quite well without it.

If one believes that action at a distance requires an aether, then all
they have to do is read On the Quantum as a Physical Entity to see a
very mechanical explanation of the phenomenon.
