I only read Henri's posts through quotes now. Every time I read his massed
stupidity it makes me angry that somewhere the education system failed big
time....

Not necessarily. The education system can be said to fail only in cases
where someone sought an education in earnestness, and it was not
provided. Henri has been quite open about deliberately NOT seeking an
education. He feels he was "born with a scientific mind" and that makes
seeking an education unnecessary and (according to him) downright
counterproductive.

Point taken. As a child, I was always fascinated by how things worked. I
remember watching "Cosmos" and being almost lost in the wonder of the
universe, but feeling small that we only knew so much about the universe.

Seeing someone like him parade their ignorance almost as a badge of honour
is quite sad.

He has also managed to fabricate for himself the
notion that all the great thinkers that have contributed most mightily
to science have done so in this same fashion -- though I doubt he could
point to anyone as an example of that. He simply feels it *should* be
so. This approach is, of course, similar to their approach to physics:
let's discuss not what IS so, but what *should* be so.

I view this "mega-anthropic" view with deep suspicion. The universe is such
a large place, and we are so small and fragile creatures... It makes no
sense that the Universe should fulfill any of our expectations.

I think what doesn't help is that we're at a time when we are beginning to
probe the very big and the very small, and the Universe is revealing its
secrets to us - and some of us feel put out that it doesn't fulfill our
expectations.

We are children of the universe, not the other way round..
