If the top of the diagram is the top, then downwards should be towards the bottom. For some reason, they always show the bottom at the top.
It's much easier then to visualize our galaxy going down the plug hole.

Right in front of us, towards the bottom.
By the way, why don't the stars go around the galaxy at the right speed?

I think that the sea is about to go further than the beach, if the global warming pundits are correct.

Could it be for the same reason that water doesn't go straight down the plug hole?
