| Yes, It was mentioned on our news this morning.

| Good idea...except imagine the chaos if a gremlin got into the works...
| I don't think you would get the insurance companies to back you...
It's a gremlin that doesn't prevent normal vision, it enhances it.
You'd see at a glance if it failed, same as you'd know instantly
if your brakes failed. Insurance companies cover brake failure,
but I'm not looking for venture capital from insurance companies
anyway.
Fog at Heathrow costs millions in lost revenue, its the busiest
international airport in the world. O'Hare may be busier, but that's
mostly for traffic within the USA.
If a pilot cannot see the runway when his radio altimeter reads
50 feet, he's obliged to abort landing and go elsewhere.
It never gets that close, of course. The control tower waves
him off long before when he's still at 30,000 ft over the Atlantic.
If his point of departure is an hour away he doesn't even take off.
Yah gotta realize, H, planes take off, fly and land themselves under
computer control, and have done for years.
The pilot is only there to make the passengers feel safe and to
abort if he sees something wrong. He doesn't do anything
except taxi, punch in the destination and select whatever altitude
he's told to fly at while in an over land corridor. Planes
fly from radio beacon to beacon, find the glideslope and
follow it down, then when wheels are on ground the autopilot
trips, the pilot goes to airbrakes and reverse thrust and taxies
to the gate. Pilots are highly paid bus drivers, that's all.
A head up display is not a new idea:
http://reviews.cnet.com/Heads_up_display/4660-10863_7-6214355.html
All I'm saying is project the road ahead instead of / as well as instrumentation,
in real time using image enhancement.
