Again.. it appaears you have a lot of knowledge about the history of it,
and are good at picking out all the things that seem absurd to you, and
ignore the important things. Next thing you know you might be saying
things actually get crushed by distance contraction, when their proper
length is unchanged.
Guys have been trying to explain relativity to John for years without any
success. You are welcome to try, but past evidence is he simply doesn't
get it, no matter how you try and explain it - and believe I and others
have tried lots of ways. Kind of like in trying to explain algebra when
people can't get over why you call the unknown x - they never realize what
you call it is irrelevant.
Thanks .. I'll give it a shot .. and if he shows no sign of being willing to
learn or to think rationally , then I'll give up.
So far he's shown that he is (eventually) willing to listen .. as when I
explained how using 'relative to' implied a frame-of-reference shift and
that you need to be more careful in what you write to ensure you are
communicating properly. He was even able to come up with some statements
that would be understood by both himself and others .. and, of course, that
is required for being able to hold a rational discussion.
So .. maybe there's hope after all .. time will tell.
