Only if you refuse to allow SR the same priviledge, which is exactly what you
are doing when you claim that SR must invoke an aether or 'fail' to meet YOUR
requirement of a 'physical explanation'.

When electrons in atoms change energy state the energy lost flies off in the form of a photon. BaTh involves this reasonably well understood physical process the only thing it fails to explain is just why it is always at the same speed.

Without an aether there can be no subsequent physical process because there is nothing physical which can take part in a physical process. Put simply if the speed of light is not dependent on the physical processes taking place in the source then what physical process is it dependent upon? It is not simply a case of not understanding the physical process as with BaTh it is the absence of anything which could possibly take part in a physical process.
