What is seen from the track is that the laser beam ("pencil")
propagates vertically in finite time while the train advances from
left to right

So .. you've changed the whole example now to the light being stationary wrt
the track and shining vertically in the FoR of the track. Whereas the
example being discussed was where the light source was in the train and
shining vertically in the FoR of the train. No wonder you were confused.

Thus, from the perspective of a frame anchored in the
track, the ray of light gets further and further to the left with
respect to the car.

Not terribly well expressed .. what you're really saying, in a more
concoluted way, is:

Thus, from the perspective of a frame anchored in the
track, the train gets further and further to the right with
respect to the ray of light

The "trace" left by light on the car

I assume you mean if we shine the light up a side wall of the train, so we
can see the path it takes up that wall

is inclined from right to left.

Yes.

Say that the height of the car is H. The light beam covers the
distance from the floor to the ceiling in t=H/c

In which frame of reference.. I assume you mean the FoR of the track

In the meanwhile, the car moves from LEFT to RIGHT by v*t=vH/c
So, the figure seen against the train back wall is:

What figure is that?

So .. your problem was that you were talking about a completely different
example to what everyone else was here .. and that's why you got a different
results.

I even clearly restated what the experiment conditions were in my replies,
and you still kept telling me I was wrong.
