I claim it to be less than 45 degrees off of the vertical, inclined in the
direction of train motion.
As the speed of the train approaches c, the angle from the vertical (from
the iRoF of the track) will approach 90deg from the vertical (ie the beam
will approach 0 deg from the horizontal in the direction of the tmotion of
the train).
I claim that the bead analogy is a very good one, only neglecting the
shortening of the train [as seen by trackside observers] as the train's
speed approaches 'c'. I claim that THAT shortening will make the beam more
close to vertical but that the beam will still strike the center of the
mirror.
The shortening won't make a difference in this case, as we're talking about
the same x location for the source and destination. You can't shorten a
difference of zero :)
But as explained, it is the time dilation that results in aberration being
more pronounced when SR is taken into account.
