No, it isn't. It is rather loose terminology, in keeping with the original poster's statements.

To say that photon are 'fields' is therefore nonsense unless you can explain what you mean by a physical 'field' consistent with an acceptance of the no aether doctrine which you endorse.
In QED, photons are the embodiment of the electromagnetic field. This _IS_ how we use these words today. You need to study MODERN physics in order to understand such things.
