Are you saying that SR will allow one inertial frame to correctly
infer what another inertial frame will measure of yet a third
acclerating system? Or something else.

The entire motion of the rod is not
important to the analysis. At the
"throat" of individual threads, the
motion of the mating surface is
entirely parallel to the thread... so
no contraction should occur at this
location.
I just criticized David S. for changing
the problem - and now here you switched
to other frames than he asked about
(that was not immediately clear to me).
He was talking from the rest frame of the nut. I merely concentrated
on a single place on the nut, to see what could be seen there. I did
*not* switch frames, since I am still on the nut. His concern was
that the rod should strip or otherwise lock up, because he was
glossing over the transistion from center of mass of the rod, to the
actual surfaces that he expected to lock up.
Useful? I doubt it, but let him answer.
OK. Or he will ignore both of us, and spawn another thread. Perhaps
with gears... or current carrying wires...
