Dear all,
How to pronounce the the word "Saganc" known as the Sagnac
interferometer.
It is French. The g is almost silent with a sound like an English "y".
In English transliteration: San-yak, but the n is more glottal than
usual, and the "k" is quite soft.

This is inherent for straight out-and-back arms; for arms with multiple mirrors one would make the paths of each arm cross such that the inscribed area is zero. ... (sci.physics.relativity)

Sagnac-type experiments use rotating interferometers and M+G-type experiments use stationary interferometers fixed to the Earth (a loop).... measure the rotation of the interferometer relative to locally inertial frames. ... But the signal in a Sagnac or M&G interferometer is proportional to the area enclosed by the light paths, and for the MMX that is zero. ... (sci.physics.relativity)
