I am glad you are being a little more careful.
What was being done was to make sure that this
geometry was (or would be) a proper description of
our nature or of our reality. SR experts want to
reverse all this, and say that the geometry is not
just a description of our reality, but that it is
something that is actually controlling our reality.

Nonsense .. SR says nothing of the sort, and SR expert say nothing of the
sort. Noone is saying geomtry controlls reality. The geometry (a human
concept) models reality .. 4D minkowski spacetime accurately models reality
... that is as good as you can possibly get for claiming reality 'is'
something; ie. saying that reality 'is' 4D minkowski spacetime. All we can
really do is talk about terms in our models of reality .. everything we say
about reality is our model of it, our perception of it, our words to
describe it.
