I think SR is probably a bad intermediate solution
to an essentially good idea. Far as I can work out,
the stuff that really confuses newbies about C20th
relativity theory isn't so much GR, but the
supposedly-simpler SR stuff.
What confuses newbies is that they are taught Newton, and they
build an internal "religion" around it. After all, any
discipline that references early physics, refers to Newton and
his laws.
Then they encounter 4D spacetime, where space is no longer
independent (orthogonal yes...) of time, that is where fuses
start to blow.
Anyhow, it's all discussed (and hopefully explained)
in the book.
