"For your better comprehension, know that Copernicus first explains
the remarkable
consequences to the various planets deriving from the annual movement
of the earth; in particular the forward and retrograde movements of
the three outer planets. Then he adds that these apparent mutations
which are perceived to be greater in Mars than in Jupiter, from
Jupiter's being more distant, and still less in Saturn, from its being
farther away than Jupiter, remain imperceptible in the fixed stars
because of their immense distance from us in comparison with the
distance of Jupiter or of Saturn." Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief
World Systems
As a Christian,I get a great deal of satisfaction knowing that the
mileage the anti-intutive empiricists have gained from using Church
opposition to Galileo as a means to promote guesswork and equations to
approach celestial phenomena is a poisoned chalice. The political
maneuver of the Church backfired and they deserve the criticism
however it remains that the link between Galileo and Copernicus
remains correct while the link between Newton and Copernicus/Galileo
does not exist except as a framehopping farce.
Go enjoy the time lapse footage which contemporary imaging provides
allied with the correct commentary of Galileo. When you all become
comfortable with the reasoning then and only then can Newton and his
dumb framehopping maneuver, based on a hypothetical observer on the
Sun,be approached.
