You'd have to ask the committee and see what other work was nominated and
awarded. Perhaps (I am just guessing here) they felt the work was closely
related to Loretnz et al, and so it would not be fair to award just
Einstein. There was probably a lot of politic involved in the decision.
There may be some information around about it .. I'm not sure if those
awarding would have documented the reason for not awarding a prize. Maybe
you could do some research and find out, if you are really interested. Not
that it makes any difference to the physics.
