would you realise this effect in practice?
Have light signals (from one source in the barn) sent to and bounce back
on mirrors on the end points of the pole, and record the sending and
echo receiving times. If the averages 1/2 (tr1+ts1) and 1/2 (tr2+ts2)
of the send/receive times match, then the signals bounced simultaneously,
and the length can be calculated from 1/2 (tr1-ts1) c and 1/2 (tr2-ts2) c.
