Some have been here for almost two decades if you do a google group
search. If you spent time here you could pick up on a type of evolution
but you would have to have an eye for it.
If you want to know what the theory of relativity is all abouit and
why people argue over it ,the answer is less obvious than even you
might think. If you are an adult and not particularly pushed one way or
another then it is possible to point out the landmarks which caused a
section of humanity to lose its mind about a century ago was making a
bad situation worse.
The garden variety drum roll for the introduction of relativity is
that it overturned Newton's conceptions of time, space and motion, the
usual path is via jettisoning the idea of absolute space as it became
associated with the Michelson-Morley experiment and aether. The thing
about it is that Newton is pretty explicit about what he thinks of
aether -
"The fictitious matter which is imagined as filling the whole of space
is of no use for explaining the phenomena of Nature, since the motions
of the planets and comets are better explained without it, by means of
gravity; and it has never yet been explained how this matter accounts
for gravity. The only thing which matter of this sort could do, would
be to interfere with and slow down the motions of those large
celestial bodies, and weaken the order of Nature; and in the
microscopic pores of bodies, it would put a stop to the vibrations of
their parts which their heat and all their active force consists in.
Further, since matter of this sort is not only completely useless,
but
would actually interfere with the operations of Nature, and weaken
them, there is no solid reason why we should believe in any such
matter at all. Consequently, it is to be utterly rejected." Newton
Optics 1704
At the turn of the last century, guys like Mach lost patience with
Newton and attacked the absolute/relative definitions which he saw as
a foolish indulgence.Albert came along and created a fiction which
associates absolute space with aether and overcame the problem of
offending Newton by basically removing the geometric elements of the
absolute/relative definitions altogether -
"In order to be able to look upon the rotation of the system, at least
formally, as something real, Newton objectivises space. Since he
classes his absolute space together with real things, for him rotation
relative to an absolute space is also something real. Newton might no
less well have called his absolute space ``Ether''" Albert
Once you remove the fiction which associates aether with absolute
space it is Isaac that is still running the show, dictating the terms
and what have you,in other words, relativity is basically a non
geometric expansion of Newton's agenda with Albert being a required
shill.Almost all kid themselves that they are involved in deep
discussions and intricate arguments to support or reject the
relativity doctrine but all they ever do is highlight just how much of
a stranglehold Newton has on their imaginations, and you know what, they
do not mind it in the slightest.
Again,it is an adult thing or a 21st century thing to get into the
details of what went wrong back in the late 17th century and even
preceded Newton by way of the flawed reasoning employted by
Flamsteed.Until then, you will see the same posts, the same
arguments, the same reactions, the same everything while their peers
start to withdraw from relativity in a hurry. Then you deal with Isaac
where the real conceptual monsters exist and they are absolutely
terrified of that.
