Let me clue you into something, Strich. Usenet is a gold-mine
opportunity for self-delusion. It is also a fierce attractor for those
who crave attention and are desperate not to be ignored.

So, if you find that you suddenly hear nothing but crickets, I will
not be surprised if you imagine that this is because you've shocked
the physics community into stunned silence. It may not occur to you
that the conversation lasted just long enough to establish how
worthless a conversation with you is going to be. You may also find
that your attempts to *dare* the crowd into a response, lest dire
consequences ensue (like Einstein's fall from grace), also do not
generate much action. It may not have occurred to you that issuing a
dare to an empty cornfield is a tad ineffectual. Since both of these
suggest the intolerable state of being ignored, most cranks will find
some other way to rationalize the outcome.
