Thanks for your interesting and thoughtful reply. I will post below
final essay and my original essay on the search for a faster than
light communication theory. My need to develop one arose because my
proposed atomic spaceship (a revised version of Orion) would lack any
communication system once travelling at a great speed than light. This
framework is now my theological and personal belief system. I believe
in God and believe that my soul (and everyone else's) travels outside
of the universe to be judged. I am not a Christian, although I was
educated to be and therefore value some of the teachings within the
Bible. If I had to label my religion it would be "Shinto-Judaeo", only
an invented name. The term "Buddhist-Christian" is already around. But
my label for it is unimportant.
The theology was written in an attempt to propose a framework within
which scientists could look for and then learn to produce these
signals for the purpose of communications with the proposed spaceship.
That it became (and has remained for 10 years) my own "religion" was
not my intention. I wrote the theology (or philosophy if you prefer)
on the starting grounds I must attempt to exclude anything that would
contradict Judaism, Christianity or Islam. The basic grounds it is
built on is that all of these 3 religions share a belief in an
outgoing soul carrying data to be judged and incoming data (the voice
of God, talking either directly to everyone or to special chosen
people). My goal was to distil from that a theology restricted to how
these data signals are created, transferred and stored using our
current knowledge of the data sciences.
I would not want to insult religious people by saying my theories are
a religion. They contain no moral or ethical guidance. They merely
validate (at least for me) how and why there is a soul that will be
judged.
I will also post another essay on psychiatry. I am not a theologian. I
am well read on the anti-psychiatry movement and both the philosophy
and politics of the 1960s. One of my particular proposals is that the
military must once again sanction the limited use of LSD within
psychiatry to treat schizophrenia, this time to include research into
faster than light communications as explained in my essay.
I think you are wrong about the abuse of the legacy of Einstein. I am
also not proposing Einstein is wrong. I am proposing that there is a
secondary theory of relativity that effects A (Acceleration) in the
Newtonian equation F=MA. The effect of this is to counter-act some of
the outcomes (such as the light speed barrier). Remember I am not a
physicist, so I would not have the training to engage directly with
challenging Einstein's theories. It would require trained physicists
to incorporate my rudimentary model into something more sophisticated.
That is why I am posting on this newsgroup to see if anyone is
interested enough to help do that.
I am however a historian by training. I completed an in-depth study of
the Manhattan project when I was 16 and then dropped physics as a
subject. I later turned to use this knowledge to work on my revisions
of the Orion project. This work mainly involved the use of comparative
historical analysis techniques (stretching back to the Chinese
invention of gunpowder). My book searching for a publisher is the
final product of this work. I will post below the summary (eight
points) of revisions to the original Orion project I am proposing
along with the Orion Lift Development proposal. You are welcome to a
copy of the full book (60,000 words) if you wish in PDF format but it
still requires an edit. I am particularly concerned to remove in the
editing any direct criticism of Einstein in my book. Although it was
necessary to think critically about him during the writing of the
book, I only attacking the modern use of his legacy, not the man nor
even his ideas. I am attempting to propose an addition (which I think
true) and it would become the task of trained physicists to see to
what extent they interact and contradict the existing theory of
relativity.
By using comparative historical analysis techniques I unearthed a
nuclear secret that I had not understood when studying the Manhattan
project in 1985 as a schoolboy. One of the gigantic problems is that
this secret not only skewers people's views of atomic science but that
it has snowballed as the decades have passed to produce many
undesirable effects. Our dependence on oil rather than nuclear
generated electricity is one, but I cannot say how without discussing
the secret. In theory I could because I am not "signed up" to keep it
a secret. However common sense tells me not to. The secret is there to
protect us although this was not the initial reason for the creation
of the secret. The fact that no terrorist has every used a nuclear
weapon could be argued to be proof that "nuclear secrets" have worked
to protect us. It comes for a price. Obviously the continuing failure
to adopt nuclear power to control climate change may require a re-
think of the general strategy at a future data.
There are other consequences. Democratic accountability is one of
them. An opposition leader (such as David Cameron of the UK
Conservative Party) will not have been told the secret. This makes it
very hard for politicians to debate openly the cost-benefits of
nuclear power generation, since those in government always know
something the opposition don't on the subject. It also brings into
question the dubious good of "a holy communion", where newly elected
leaders are invited into this new "knowledge club". I believe this an
effect of divorcing the elected from the electorate in an unhealthy
way, more so now that the Cold War has ended and the number of serious
secrets a government must hold back from the population is massively
reduced. This one secret therefore acquires relatively much more
importance.
The other consequence and of central importance in answering your
response is the legacy of Einstein and the state of modern physics.
Even a nuclear physicist (unless right at the very top of the career
ladder) will not know "nuclear secrets". History is full of examples
of how knowledge conspiracies at the top of an organisation can cause
stagnation in the development of new ideas and enforce over conformity
to those values by the membership. Also some people assume things are
secret when they are not. They exist in text books in libraries but
the assumption of such secrets is there because school children are
not taught the basics and Hollywood films continue this myth making.
It could be argued that something is a nuclear secret because educated
people are not taught it at school and the films tell them it is a
secret. However I am not evaluating this "security by obscurity"
methodology to be relevant to the discussion here. I am referring to
the nuclear secret that you will and cannot know unless you are at the
very top.
At one stage I thought of naming my book "Please America Drop the
Bomb". That means "drop the bombshell" or "let the cat out of the
bag". It means within the context of what I am proposing, a massive
global change in development priorities so that nuclear powered
spaceship can be built to reach the stars, this secret has to go.
There are some other issues linked to the secret that also have
perverted the course of physics and abused the legacy of Einstein. For
instance it was Einstein's words and no one else's who calmed down the
rebellious Manhattan project scientists approaching the day of the
first test. I am referring to the growing fear amongst workers that
the first test might have ignited the earth and consumed us all.
Obviously it didn't. So why is this relevant? For political reasons it
has been policy to try and distance Einstein as far as possible from
the Manhattan project.
As Edward Teller is known as "father of the H bomb", in a world devoid
of politics Einstein should be known as "father of the A bomb".
Instead Oppenheimer as project manager goes without any title and
Einstein is portrayed as a "man of peace". It is an appropriate moment
for me to say that as a UK citizen I believe fully in the right of
Israel to exist. I would therefore ask, has portraying Einstein as a
"man of peace" rather than a "brilliant weapon's scientist" helped
Israel? I don't think so.
I have not read much Einstein, but I do understand he wrote many
letters urging world peace following the Second World War. However
will the legacy of Bill Gates be the man who built Microsoft or the
man who "did much good in Africa"? I also do not think it diminishes
Einstein's legacy to regard him a weapons scientist. It is the elected
politicians who must in general take moral responsibility for the
decisions to build weapons, not the scientists who are deployed to do
so.
You are wrong about Einstein not becoming close to a religious icon.
The very popular "God Delusion" by Dawkins is book that shows this
process in action. I will also post beneath my response to Dawkins'
book called "Dawkins' Einsteinian not Progressive Enough" in case you
wish to follow my reasoning why.
I must apologise for the length of my reply. I hope it not too hard to
understand the content of the posts beneath. I am not sure it helps me
reach what I require, someone to provide a maths model of my new
proposed theory of relativity. I am not able to explain the model that
I require better than I have done so at the moment. I apologise for
the limitations of my clarity. I can only vaguely hope that by
throwing the sledgehammer quantity of my book contents (the posts
below all belong in the book) that I might crack a few nuts that you
scientists are, and waken someone up enough to help with the model
required. If not, at least I have a clear conscience that I have
struggled to the best of my ability to warn the world it is wrong
about star-ship travel and that the continuing dangers of our species
annihilation by nuclear conflict remains until that journey is
embarked upon and concluded. As a god fearing man (of no religion) I
can then answer on the day of my judgement that comes with death that
I did not shirk in my fight to save mankind. To lighten things up, I
am going to add my short nuclear parable and "60 second play" to the
posts and make it the first. The other posts will follow the
chronological order they are introduced in the above.
Nuclear Parable of Arts and Sciences
Once there were two men, a scientist and an artist. They were dead and
went to heaven, along with everyone else in the human race because
there was a global nuclear war. God says to the two, “Ok. I’ll give
you a time machine to go back in time to five years before the end of
human history. You’ll have complete control of the UN and all world
governments and all world resources. And I can give you a clue. Some
races avoid your end by using atomic explosions to propel themselves
to the stars and not as weapons of war.”
So they go back and the scientist immediately sets up the world’s
biggest scientific community looking for the solution. Five years pass
and unfortunately no new invention is found to reach the stars. The
speed of light barrier and the immense G forces on the human cannot be
solved. Bang! He meets God again and is asked what went wrong. He says
“relativity”.
On the parallel earth, the artist immediately commands that an atomic
bomb is sent into space and exploded. 90% of the satellites fall back
to earth. He then commands it done again to “check it out” and the
remaining 10% of satellites tumble back to earth. He then asks the
scientists what could harness such an incredible power to reach the
stars? They start to talk of setting up a commission to investigate,
but before they can win that argument he says “well what about a tin
can?” So they put into space a 50 tonne steel cannon and it shatters
into a million pieces. He then says, well what about a 200 tonne
cannon? The scientists explain that such an object is too heavy to put
into space “in one go”. So he says “please ask the astronauts to put
some pieces together”. After that is done, it too shatters into a
million pieces. Finally he says “Build me a 1,000 tonne cannon”. This
time it doesn’t shatter but completely disappears. Joyfully the artist
says to the scientists “We could evacuate earth on the back of that”.
Nuclear Parable as a short performance play
GOD: Welcome to heaven. Mankind has destroyed itself by war but I’m
giving you a chance to change it in this time machine.
(Andrew pointing at Brian)
ANDREW (meekly): But I’m an artist. He’s the scientist.
GOD (angrily): I’m still putting you both back in turn 5 years into
the past.
(BRIAN falling to his knees)
BRIAN: Will I be given a lab?
GOD: You’ll have complete control of the world.
(BRIAN rises from his knees)
ANDREW: So how do we stop the end?
GOD (imperiously): Know this. Some of my creations use atomic
explosions to fly between my stars.
(Exit stage ANDREW. Lights off/on or gong sounds to indicate five
years later)
GOD: Welcome back.
(BRIAN falling to his knees)
BRIAN: I failed.
GOD: Why?
(BRIAN rises from his knees)
BRIAN (imperiously): The speed of light barrier. Immense G forces!
Cannot be overcome by our best theories.
(Exit stage GOD. Lights off/on or gong sounds to indicate five years
later. Enter stage ANDREW. ANDREW carries in one hand an empty but
clean regular-size food tin-can)
(BRIAN hugs Andrew)
BRIAN: How did you do it?
ANDREW (casually): I commanded the first ever atomic explosion in
space.
BRIAN: Didn’t it destroy the satellites?
ANDREW (hesitantly): 90%
BRIAN: Heavens above! What next?
ANDREW: I told the scientists to test again and the last 10% fell.
(ANDREW hands the empty tin can to BRIAN)
ANDREW: Straight away I said put this bang in a tin-can.
(BRAIN revolving the tin-can in his hands and peering into the empty
interior)
BRIAN: They understood?
ANDREW: Yes, we made a 50 tonne tin-can.
(BRAIN clasps with both hands ANDREW’S shoulders)
BRIAN: It worked?
ANDREW: No, it splintered into a million pieces.
(BRAIN releases ANDREW’S shoulders and stands back a bit)
ANDREW: I said to them make me one more but weighing ten thousand
tonnes.
(BRAIN speaks while throwing his hands into air to gesture absurdity)
BRIAN: Rubbish! That’s too heavy to put into space.
(ANDREW speaks while opening and showing both palms to the audience)
ANDREW: So I asked the astronauts to assemble it in orbit.
(BRIAN stands on tiptoes and moves the tin-can in an arc at full
stretch)
BRIAN: Eureka!
(ANDREW gesturing a shooting star or fast car movement with one hand –
Grease Lightning parody style)
ANDREW: Upon detonation the tin-can left our solar system.
Introduction to Galaxy Union
What follows is an explorative doctrine that may provide clues on
where to begin the hunt for faster than light communications to
support the starship traveling at speeds greater than light. The
original title of "The soul and the after-life" under first revision
became "Galaxy union: The anti-matter soul and the anti-matter of
after-life". Under further revisions the title ended up as "Computing
particle theory of the soul and afterlife". The ultimate version and
therefore the most update is provided first. However it is followed by
the reproduction of the original in case it may provide better
guidelines for particle theorists than the re-write.
The conclusion of these texts is that there exist two signals:
1. One faster-than-light signal is similar to a radio signal in that
it contains unlimited frequencies/channels. It emanates from the edge/
outside of the universe and penetrates all space geometry.
2. One faster-than-light signal is similar to a light pulse and is
released by living matter as part of the dream sequence. Hence it
radiates from planets supporting living matter to the edge/outside of
the universe.
Developing the new communications capacity to maintain contact with
Orion space craft therefore requires detection of the speculated
signals through clinical tests. Detection of signal 2 could be arrived
at by the use of clinical dream studies and the awakening point. More
controversially the detection of signal 1 is likely to require the re-
use of LSD in mental illness studies as was pioneered in the 1960s. At
the end of this chapter, under the subheading of "Knowledge Assembly
and Anti-Psychiatry, an update on some of the issues is given.
Computing Particle Theory of the Soul and After-life
This theory was initially developed under the title "Galaxy union: The
anti-matter soul and the anti-matter of after-life". This has since
become my personal framework of religious belief. Also while it is
based on the route of scientific speculation rather than in a
particular theological faith, it does not apparently contradict the
basic framework of faith in Judaism, Christianity or Islam. What
follows is an explorative doctrine that was derived from an
intellectual attempt to seek insight on where to begin hunting for
faster than light communication signals. It still applies, even after
transforming into my personal framework of religious faith, as a
research framework to harness such signals to support any future built
starship travelling beyond light speed. This is important because the
intent and purpose of defining the framework should remain to enable
manipulation of these signals for this original purpose.
Obviously concepts such as the soul and the after-life are inherently
felt to exist by some, but not by all. These are common enough
insights shared by both the philosophical and religious believers. One
might therefore speculate that in the very long term, the social
fabric moderates itself, irrespective of specific religion, to
accommodate an approximate balance between the material absolutes and
the opposing truths found in religion. This being so, it should be
regarded as scientifically challenging to understand why on average
one half of a nation's population, through a process unattached to
science, volunteers an expression that heaven exists.
One obvious conclusion on observation of this mass phenomenon is it
could indicate that there is indeed a universal signal as yet
undetected by physicists that bombards the planet with data. Drawing
from the common experience of dreaming and the recent developments in
the practice of computer science, when combined, should allow a second
undetected physics particle wave to be speculated. For the first time
in history, direct experience with electronic information can propose
the manner of the transfer of the soul to the after-life for a process
of analysis and judgement. It is likely to be a not one-off
information process transfer since in computing work is saved at
regular intervals. Rather that the information of the soul is
transferred in bits and stages.
The biological process of dreaming is very much a process experienced
as if "saving at regular intervals" but this process has not yet been
detected or been narrowed down scientifically to the release of any
known physics particle. However new spiritual beliefs concerning the
exact process and purpose of dreaming are now possible because of the
widespread familiarity with computing. The traditional image of the
soul of something that leaves the body upon wings to fly into a heaven
above cloud level is well known. It is also popular in the light of
scientific rationalism to see this process of the soul´s departure
from the dead as only metaphysical and not a physical event.
However the implications of the data transfer in computer science
might permit the speculation that the soul of religious traditions is
only a simplification of "a last man out" process. That there are
regular precursor to this final departure of data in the form of
regular dreaming. This process of a transfer of memories (objective
facts) and reflections (subjective opinions) into the after-life begs
the discovery of a new type of physic’s particle wave. A form and new
type of anti-matter, free of any explosive type qualities, might be
called “Neilum” for instance in honor of Danish physicist Neil Bohrs.
Should acknowledgement of a likely existence of the regular transfer
of data to the after-life with every dream´s completion, effect in any
way the necessary human belief or denial of what judgement will occur
when life is over?
Such a particle theory communication model requires the willingness to
base itself upon the assumption that it is incorrect and heretical to
speculate on the actual order of the after-life. All religions differ
on some views, but the non-eastern commonly agree that the purpose of
life is that deeds done while alive are judged as a whole upon death.
One new challenge for modern computer information science, without
speculating religious orders, is to seek to explain religions by
drawing parallels between the process of data transfer in computing
and observing the inherent belief of many in such a data flows. This
is to support the after-life to be maintained as a probable fact. Yet
without disregarding the initial purpose of such theoretical
exploration which is to successfully discover and then manipulate the
promised physics particle wave for faster than light communication
purposes.
The observation of multimedia bandwidth and the logical saving data
at regular intervals, means that science now has the ability to
propose theological advances. Rather than the entire record of a
lifetime being transferred immediately upon death, that instead the
memories and reflections of the period since the previous dream are
uploaded in the next state of dreaming. It makes little sense with our
regular use of computers, to insist that dreaming can have no relation
with the after-life and that the soul transfers all such required data
upon the single departure of the demise. This challenges credibility,
especially if the richness of life is compared with the experience of
new multimedia performance of computer systems. These concepts are
data rich. If each dream transfers large amounts of data to the after-
life on a mainly daily basis, the departing soul from the dead body no
longer has to be given any awe-inspiring and magical property to carry
an unfathomable amount of data. It is also easily observed that in
remembering the vividness of dreams there is an analogy with
multimedia that suggests the experience of the promised after-life is
to be rich with data. Complex multimedia productions require hours of
“rendering time” whilst nothing but nonsense passes across the
computer screen, but the final product is distinct and logical.
To confer the single departing soul with the entire task of such a
responsibility of complete data transfer in a multimedia age is
illogical. It detracts from the logic of a “data rich” after-life or
bestows a storage and transfer capacity beyond reasonable
comprehension.
The other scientific observation of non-eastern religions, that
approximately one half of any population inherently feels there is an
after-life, is to allow some room for the freedom to define what is
the source of any inspiration. This is not to judge one half better
than the other, but to suggest that civilisation makes progress within
the duality of arts and sciences. That the definitions of ideas as
scientific or not, move in relation to a populations receipt of
inspiration. Any empirical observation of the sheer numbers that
believe some inspiration to be not only external, but actually coming
from the sky above and entering into the human head, should not be
dismissed without a search for a signal. It probably means that there
is a yet undetected universal signal bombarding this planet and that
is also logically being carried across all other planets in the
universe. That is to say it is similar to light speed or rather
greater than light speed radio wave. i.e. broadly non directional.
Since the source of the universal broadcast signal to be a conscious
source of inspiration must be logically found in the afterlife, it
must surround the universe. This is a root concept found in Genesis
and is the basic insight derived from the fundamental point of any
perspective observation. That is the geographic location of the non-
material self in contrast to the expansive path of a material world
into the stars. Thus the likely speed of this signal is many, many
times the speed of light. Until science can detect this signal, it
might be observed that there is an inherent belief in an after-life
that causes the demand for religions. This points to some sort of
signal causing this inherent logic, rather than that any religion has
artificially created the after-life's existence merely to moderate
human action.
Astronomy successively provides increasingly comprehensive pictures of
the physical universe. That the number of galaxies can be counted or
that the end of their extent can be concluded is both illusive and
highly theoretical. However astronomy does hold to a current theory of
a “big bang” that was the result of both matter and “anti-matter”
colliding. Since anti-matter cannot therefore by definition easily
exist within the proximity of the matter consisting universe, it is
logical to speculate that the after-life consists of an anti-matter
form or type and exists outside the universe.
To return to the first signal. The dream might be seen as the process
by which brain cells or DNA strands can create the hypothetical
product “data+x” or anti-matter. This form of anti-matter or “Neilum”,
or rather a scientific proof “data+x”, could be used to theorize a
method by which the dream transfers multimedia rich data (memories and
reflections) to the after-life on a regular basis. Anti-matter as it
cannot exist for long within the matter confines of the universe,
therefore once being created must carry the information and must leave
the universe with all speed. It does not need direction or will, but
rather as a physics particle it will choose the path of least
resistance to exit the universe and enter the after-life at any or an
abstract point. Carrying the relevant data processed in the dream.
The end of the universe, while still a mystery in terms of physical
evidence, is the thus theoretical start of the anti-matter that
surrounds the universe. However rather than at the end of the
universe, the after-life is better seen as outside the universe.
Speculation that a starship might one day reach this point is not
wrong, merely well outside any practical and useful point of
speculation. To do so might usher in a new and inevitable era of
humanity, but that would be a distant future humanity accustomed
through technology to travel easily and incomprehensibly effortlessly
between galaxies.
To draw some conclusions in the search for a framework for science to
look for faster than light signals. The dream or “data+x” carried out
of the universe thus must be travelling many billions of miles in
distance and therefore at a speed many, many times greater than that
of light. This is a directional, pulse format as against the second
theorized signal which is that of the non-directional wave originating
from outside the universe. In religious terms “Data+x” would be
understood as the soul, and the second signal “the universal signal”
as the voice that speaks to man. However the voice of inspiration can
also be attributed in modern psychology to gaia or mother earth. That
would create a minimum three voice structure, gaia not being subject
to external mediation of a judgement or authority and hence being
divisable into good and bad, ying and yang, devil and holy ghost. To
draw some distinction is necessary in order to reduce the probability
of scientific failure in attempting to detect the correct component of
human inspiration. Any inclusion of earth bound signals is a hindrance
to the investigative framework whose purport is to search for faster
than light signals.
While it is fruitless to speculate on the order that allocates
positions within the afterlife's hierarchy, the purpose of the soul
being judged should be assumed to be to allocate each soul a position
in the functional hierarchy.
The function of the afterlife's hierarchy is to govern the content of
the faster than light universal broadcast signal to all the planets
until the end of eternity. The non-functional side of the afterlife is
the detached enjoyment of the data rich memories, all memories being
shared without attachment or possession of access rights. For the half
of the population open to inspiration, it is always because the
listener has chosen some sort of specific channel. This signal must
therefore be spread across such a “zillion channel” or zillions of
channels. Again in the early multimedia age it is easily possible to
conceive of a thousand channel cable channel. The unlimited channels
of the universal signal must have bandwidth for all planets.
That animals can be observed dreaming is not a theological impediment
to this framework since the theory is by nature “multi-solarist”. That
is to say the intent for which the framework is constructed, to enable
communications support of a “faster than light” travelling starship,
is to discover new dominant life forms. The assumption must be that
the kingdoms of heaven are arranged and confined within the parallel
arrangements of the food chains on other planets. Multi-solarism is
thus the anticipation of that inherent desire for peaceful existence
between two races from distinct solar systems based on the agreed
destination of a common after-life. That actions between to two or
more dominant species would be judged equally.
The conclusion is thus that there are two faster than light signals
for physicists to discover, measure and manipulate for practical
applications. One is a pulse leaving the brain to carry data to
heaven, the other a wave carrying directionless data from heaven. The
unfathomable physical outside of the universe is the start of the
after-life and that all souls from all planets (if life exists ex-
solar) exists within this in some hierarchy that is part of an order.
Since the distance between a planet and an outside of the universe is
billions of miles, the speed of both the incoming “zillion channel”
signal and the outgoing data rich anti-matter particle pulse must be
many, many times the speed of light.
Therefore while the soul remains strictly defined as the last man
out, the data flows continually out from dreams. This prepares the
data rich environment of the after-life. The actual soul leaves when
the last cell or cells manufacture the final data+x “stop signal”. The
stop signal is an automatic part of the biological function, as is
this term used in data-communications to signal the close of
transmission. The promised functional aspect of the afterlife is the
expectation to earn judgement that allows fruitful participation in
the formation of the “zillion channel”. The wave carrying data from
heaven but also there is a non-functional aspect which is the
inevitable detached play in the endless sum of data carried by pulse
back.
Galaxy union: The anti-matter soul and the anti-matter of after-life
The soul and the after-life are inherently felt to exist by, one could
speculate, exactly one half of any planet's population. This indicates
that there is a universal signal as yet undetected by physicists that
bombards the planet with data. The nature of dreaming and recent
developments in the practice of computer science also allows us to
speculate for the first time that the transfer of the soul to the
after-life for the process of reckoning is much more likely to not be
a one-off information process. Dreaming that is common everyday
experience but the purpose of it has never been narrowed down
scientifically to any absolute purpose. New religious beliefs
concerning the mysterious process and purpose of dreaming are now only
possible because of the widespread familiarity with computing. The
traditional image of the soul leaving the body upon wings to fly into
a heaven above cloud level is widely understood. It is also understood
that the "you" of the soul is not physical but a reflective quality.
The famous autobiography of the mystic C.J.Jung is aptly named
"Memories, Dreams and Reflections". The implication would thus be that
the soul is the transfer of memories (objective facts) and reflections
(subjective opinions) into an after-life, where this data is assessed.
It is incorrect and heretical to speculate on the order of the after-
life. All religions differ on their views, but all commonly agree that
the purpose of life is that deeds done while alive are judged as a
whole upon death. The challenge of information science, without
speculating orders, is to support the purpose of all religions by
drawing parallels between the process of data transfer in computing
and the inherent need of a logical belief of such a data flow. This is
to support the after-life to be maintained as a probable fact.
Therefore the observation of multimedia bandwidth and the logical of
saving data at regular intervals, concludes that science now has the
ability to propose theological advances. Namely, rather than the
entire record of a lifetime being transferred immediately after death,
that the memories and reflections of "you" are downloaded each day
when in the state of dreaming. It makes little sense with our regular
use of computers, to insist that dreaming can have no relation with
the after-life and that the soul transfers all such required data upon
the single anticipated departure. This challenges credibility,
especially if the richness of life in a multimedia concept we actually
can sometimes remember as happening in a dream is so data rich. If
each dream transfers large amounts of data to the after-life on a
mainly daily basis, the departing soul from the dead body does not
have to be given any awe-inspiring property to carry an unfathomable
amount of data. It is also a comfort that in remembering the vividness
of dreams an analogy with multimedia suggests the experience of the
promised after-life is to be rich with data and not wanting. To infer
the departing soul with the entire task of the responsibility or some
other magical process, retracts from the richness of the experience
promised in an after-life or bestows a storage and transfer capacity
beyond comprehension.
To return to the observation that half of the population feels there
is an after-life, is to divide in half the population into those that
welcome inspiration and those that lack such inspiration. This is not
to judge one half better than the other, but to suggest that
civilisations progress within the duality of arts and sciences as the
population of ideas moves within people to regulation the receipt of
inspiration. Perspiration is held as the opposite characteristic to
inspiration in a modern idiomatic saying, and is obviously essential
for human progress although it is perhaps better defined as a
profundity that inspirational belief misses. The likelihood is that
this universal signal bombarding this planet is also carried across
all planets in the universe. Furthermore since the source of the
universal signal is the afterlife, that the likely location speed of
the signal is many, many times the speed of light. Until science can
detect this signal, it will remain the vocation of one half of the
population to feel this signal and declare automatically that an after-
life exists. It is an inherent belief in the after-life to be a fact
that has caused the demand for religions, pointing to some sort of
signal causing this inherent logic, rather than religions that have
created an after-life's existence to moderate human deed.
The modern illusion of astronomy is to provide increasingly
comprehensive pictures of the physical universe. However the grains of
sand on a beach are not infinite but can be theoretically totalled.
Astronomy also holds to the theory of a big bang that was the result
of matter and anti-matter colliding. Since anti-matter cannot by
definition exist within the entirely matter consisting universe, it is
logical to speculate that the after-life consists of anti-matter and
exists outside the universe. This demands a metaphysical or
philosophical nature to understand, as astronomy would indicate the
number of stars in the universe to be unlimited. Just as the grains of
sand would be to even the greatest scientific effort. However
contemplation of nothingness and that what exists must exist within or
next to some other point of reference, demands that the illusion of
the universe being unlimited and without need for enclosure to be an
illusion. Such illusion is accepted as science only by those unable to
manage the philosophical concepts significantly well enough. The end
of the universe is the greatest mystery, along with its dual mystery:
how does an order of after-life begin?
The dream is thus the process by which one or more brain cells create
data+x or anti-matter. The term anti-matter, although a philosophical
term rather than a scientific proof, helps explain the process by
which the dream transfers multimedia data (or memories and
reflections) to the after-life on a regular basis. Anti-matter cannot
exist within the matter of the universe and therefore once being
created to carry the information, must leave the universe with all
speed. It does not need direction or will, but rather as a physics
particle will choose the path of least resistance to exit the universe
and enter the after-life at any point, carrying the relevant data
processed in the dream. The end of the universe, while still a mystery
in terms of physical evidence, is the anti-matter of the after-life
surrounding the universe. The dream or data+x carried out of the
universe thus must be travelling zillions of miles in distance and at
a speed many, many times that of light. The end of the universe also
being the source of the universal signal carried to all dreaming
planets, if life exists beyond earth, has thus to travel an equal
distance and at equal speeds. This universal signal carries
potentially the voice of every soul in the after-life, including that
of any order that cannot be defined without insulting speculation.
That deeds (memories and reflections) will be accounted in a balancing
book asserts that every soul will be accorded a place in the hierarchy
of the after-life, regardless of religious belief or fruitless
speculation on the existence of which order allocates positions within
the hierarchy. The universal signal that is listened to by the half of
the population open to inspiration, is always because the listener has
chosen a specific channel. The signal although not detected by
science, but inherently the master of all religions, is spread across
a zillion channels. If life exists on other planets, since the signal
is hard to imagine as directional, there must be capacity for the
voice of every other soul in the after-life from every other dreaming
planet to transmit throughout the universe by this universal
carriage.
The conclusion is that in that half of the population inherently feels
the after-life to exist even without the prompt of religion, that
there exists an after-life that transmits from itself a non-
directional but universal signal across all galaxies. The unfathomable
physical end of the universe is the start of the after-life and that
all souls from all planets (if life exists ex-solar) exists within
this in some hierarchy that is part of an order that must not be
speculated on. The after-life is data rich and thus dreaming forms
part of the process of data transfer by releasing anti-matter or some
similar theoretical physics particle that by the law of physics must
exit the matter universe to enter an anti-matter or similar
theoretical particle after-life. Since the distance between a planet
and the end of the universe is zillions of miles, the speed of both
the incoming zillion channel signal and the outgoing data rich anti-
matter must be many, many times the speed of light. Both before and
after conception, relatives and other order in the after-life that
should not be speculated upon can influence the design of life to
accept inspiration or follow profundity. The soul is still strictly
the last man out, but that data flows continually out from dreams to
prepare the data rich environment of the after-life and so the soul
exits when the last cell or cells able to manufacture data+x
stop.
Knowledge Assembly and Anti-psychiatry
Knowledge is managed in the modern western world not through religion
but through the science of the mind, psychiatry. Project MK-Ultra of
the 1960’s (MK standing for Mind Control) run by the Anglo-American
security services closely involved the philosopher and essayist Aldous
Huxley. Historically the 1960’s best demonstrates that the effort to
acquire a complete knowledge topology requires and initiates turbulent
social and political change that can threaten the stability of
political systems as in the near revolutions of 1968.
A great deal of the existential writers achieving popularity in this
decade were connected with a NSW (New Social Movement) termed anti-
psychiatry. It is worth noting that anti-psychiatry is a recognised
keyword within the British Library Document Supply Centre “Inside
Information” catalogue. Anti-psychiatry or phenomenological psychiatry
still survives today within for example the PA (Philadelphia
Association) which was founded during the 60’s by the military
psychiatrist RD Laing. The PA produces a free reading list, which
resembles a who’s who of existential writers from this period.
Confusingly perhaps, there is an additional term amongst philosophers
for this school of thought called “Continental Philosophy”.
Whatever the chosen tag, the angle of approach to knowledge management
is based on the principle that altered states of consciousness provide
clues to perception necessary to understand and evaluate the sum of
human knowledge. These altered states relied heavily upon LSD
(synthesised in 1946 by Hoffman and hence sometimes known as
“Hoffman’s miracle”) and were used in psychiatry to induce a temporary
state of thought disorder close to schizophrenia. This has been used
since to challenge biological psychiatrists that schizophrenia is
indeed a medical disease that needs cured.
For a period during the 1960’s the pharmaceutical company Sandoz
supplied LSD to physicians and in turn they collected and returned
observations on patients to whom it was given. Ref jay stevens. It is
unfortunate although perhaps understandable that this research has not
yet been brought into the digital age and no doubt remains kept in the
vaults. However the mental health user movement in the western world
tends to keep this piece of history alive through discrete channels
since the challenge to the medical-legal-pharmaceutical “conspiracy”
formulated by RD Laing has largely lost ground. Furthermore it is in
the self-interests of mental health users to guard such knowledge, for
if a psychiatrist were to insist any “user” be more heavily medicated
with anti-psychotic drugs than he or she would reasonably want to
permit, the moral ground of opposition need not be re-invented.
While Indian, Taoist and Buddhist traditions have always dealt with
the problematic definitions of knowledge, the anti-psychiatry movement
attempted to assimilate them into a framework of western philosophy.
Hence the period is known as a time of experimentation with new
sociological models. When we bear in mind that much of the pioneering
working in the CD-ROM information industry in the early 1990’s was
funded by pharmaceutical giants, the niggling question is can KM
really exist as a reputable discipline if a rejection of the 60’s
experiment is inherent in the technology? Will KM move unintentionally
towards rediscovering this collection of knowledge assembled by the
60’s experiment without being able to go further because of modern day
taboos? Certainly LSD is taboo and it leaves the modern historian with
a dilemma when seeking to professionally to teach this period. Would
you skip the psychedelic era as irrelevant? Of course the widespread
use of LSD in psychiatry and psychotherapy was at the heart of the
psychedelic culture and the social changes. History in effect, even in
the universities of today, still has to stop before the 1960’s.
There are perhaps four key writers (2 British, 2 American) essential
to understanding the moral authority behind the 60’s experiment.
Aldous Huxley, RD Laing, Tim Leary and Thomas Szasz are when combined,
representative of the period’s approach to understanding the
application of human knowledge to the political process. They made an
assumption that the science of the mind, psychiatry, had a duty to
care of the patient that involved taking seriously the root cause of
any mental illness as being sociological. A product of social or
economic pressures, or even a spiritual or moral collapse, but not a
biological malfunction as the medical term “mental illness” now makes
most of us assume.
If we consider economic science for a moment, the principle of cost
accounting in modern management is similar to phenomenological
psychiatry. Cost accountants will measure the extent to which
variables unexpectedly deviate from the norm. This is defined as
“management by exception” and tasks the accountant to resolve the
issue of why the actual cost has deviated from the pre-determined
standard costing measurements. Likewise the psychiatrists within the
anti-psychiatry movement of the 1960’s were tasking themselves to
understand the mad patient as a precursor to the management by
exception of social planning and development. This sympathy went to
the extent of taking LSD with the mad patient (something RD Laing was
famous for).
With the swing to right wing agendas by the electorate in America and
Britain at the very end of the 1970’s, the biological model of mental
illness completely swept away such experimentation and has almost
completely buried the legacy of anti-psychiatry. However, now the
electronic database industry has almost exhausted the possibilities of
new technical management databases in the 90’s. Perhaps knowledge
management is almost ready to dig into the wealth of virgin research
material from this 60’s period. The retro-digitisation of LSD research
may seem an obvious avenue, but are the interests of the
pharmaceutical giants too enmeshed in the biological model of mental
illness to allow this? Considering that new animal research cannot be
proceeded with until an ethics committee reviews the proposal as a not
unnecessary repetition of past experiments, would not having such
psychedelic research at the fingertips be an irresistible pressure
upon the psychiatric profession to re-introduce limited
experimentation with LSD therapy? In the context of this research in
the vaults, Knowledge Assembly (KA perhaps?) as proposed by Paul
Gilster in his book “Digital Literacy” may be more pertinent to our
information economy than KM as you certainly cannot manage the
workforce until you have assembled it. Until we assemble past
attempts at KM, be they done with hallucinogens rather than computers,
the corporate KM system looks rather incomplete and too dissatisfying
to push us into the new era of electronic democracy and the benevolent
bureaucracy.
Eight Point Summary
Eight Point Summary of Proposed Theoretical Adjustments to Project
Orion in Space:
1. It is not a pusher-plate but a type of cannon that should contain
the blast. The cannon could be described as a pusher-plate with walls
on it, obviously to focus the energy released by the blast. Failing to
focus the blast would also destroy many more satellites than is
necessary (EMP) and is also very wasteful of the energy release. The
number of explosions required to give propulsion would thus be much
less.
2. The cannon is an ancient device but invented in a remarkable piece
of history where the Chinese failed to develop its effective
application. Unfortunately the English language does not have an
alternative and less warlike term for a hollow tube with one end
sealed by a pusher plate. America, the inventor of a new super "gun-
powder", the atomic bomb, thus is repeating history by accidentally
side-stepping the challenge of physical containment. The pusher-plate
concept seeks to avoid the challenge of physical containment, a
mistake. It is to be suggested "the inventor of new and overwhelming
explosion will fail to develop its most significant application
because of an over-whelmed sense of what the challenge of physical
containment will involve".
3. Orion might never take off from the ground, but would be built in
space. It would test the efficiency of our ability to push payload
into space, but would limit all tests to outer space orbits and beyond
where solar radiation is an existing malignant factor. As such it
could be said to be a "green technology" in that malignant radiation
releases in space are already a natural occurrence. The test apparatus
being non-tether able in such an orbit would require from the very
beginning a pilot and massive counter-thrust chemical engines to
return the test for inspection.
4. Only Sir Arthur C Clarke was prepared to allude in the BBC
documentary on Orion to the "Interstellar" aspirations of atomic
propulsion in space. Theological frameworks for interstellar travel
within the context of the history of science can be made but are as
likely to be unpopular as real science. However the initial intentions
of the Orion Project to travel purely within our solar system would
suffice because the arrival at this capability would automatically
allow high speed tests to be undertaken at will. However speaking as
an economist the enormous funding required for such a project might
not be forthcoming unless an underlying aspiration to open fertile
territories beyond our star were at least a minor possibility.
5. It should not be assumed that the human being suffers the same
intolerance to G force in space in exactly the same proportions as it
is experienced on earth until real time data can be gathered. A new
type of "accelerative relativity" is hypothesised.
6. Our world without Project Orion is in danger of dispensing with
the only natural theory of the non use of nuclear weapons. If we miss
the point that such explosions have an economic potential for use in
space, perhaps because we proceeded initially with an alternative
theory of non-use so-called "MAD", then we are left at an evolutionary
disadvantage. That a weapon is "horrible" is not an adequate theory of
non-use, as many wars have inadvertently proved with other new
technologies. That its use in war would mean a loss of its economic
opportunity and value in space, is a significant deterrent. The Orion
Project book by Dyson mentions NASA commenting it would be a useful
way to dispose of or to consume fissile material. More than that it is
an essential theory of non use of such materials and would hopefully
when demand consumption in space increased to a certain level, call
upon the dismantling of thermonuclear weapons to free up the atomic
cores for use in the profitable area of space propulsion.
7. Project Orion once constructed in space, like the first cannons
made in many pieces, would have the potential to actually lift or pull
heavy objects into space. The old idea of the "sky hook" thus has a
new and powerful application. This is by the invention of a new type
of space elevator called "the Orion Lift". If the cannon in orbit were
to weigh 500 tonnes it would we might hope be able to lift 20 times
its own weight. The environmental costs of currently pushing payload
into space would thus be super ceded forever by a new capability to
pull (as in a building site crane or harbour tug) 10,000 tonnes into
orbit in one go by firing atomic explosions harmlessly away from earth
whilst in space at an angle to it.
8. Orion Project Revised brings the essence of simplicity into the
invention. By determining to use a cannon/tube/canister rather than a
pusher-plate with complicated hydraulics and ejection procedures, we
can draw from a near millennium's wealth of experience in the
development of the cannon to musket, then rifle. The use of cartridges
and their subsequent ejection is likely to provide engineers with more
insight on how an interplanetary craft can be efficiently powered,
than the noble but essentially misguided attempt by Orioneers to re-
write centuries of physical containment into riding shock waves. When
it comes to the challenge of physical containment in space, it is
maybe like testing a light bulb in orbit, but we must face up to the
challenge of physical containment in space. This route has seen many
hundreds of years of development tests and failures since the dawn of
the original gunpowder age. As such it is much more likely to result
in ultimate success, rather than by re-inventing the wheel as "square"
as the original Project Orion concept has with a "pusher-plate" sought
to do.
Orion Lift Development
Orion lift is an orbiting atomic platform with virtually pulse atomic
power. It uses the same physical containment structure and power as
the Orion space ship. It is the engine of the Orion ship being used as
an orbiting crane or tugboat. The scenario is therefore as follows.
The orbiting platform drops the cable of any weight which falls back
to earth. There is no attempt to hinder the speed of the falling cable
and hence forces do not act upon the orbiting atomic platform. The
cable end is aimed to fall upon a tall flat tower and a mechanism then
deflects the continuing falling cable off the tower to the ground
below. The cable continues to fall and coil up on the ground. The
cable end remains on top of the tower in a safe stationary position.
The cargo is then quickly attached to this "safe" end. The orbiting
atomic platform then fires an atomic pulse and hoists the entire cable
length and cargo back into space. To reiterate, this is something
achieved by the assumption of unlimited pulse atomic power being at
the disposal of the orbiting platform.
What type of cable could be up to the job? With the weight of the
cable not an issue, what width would be required to support cargos in
factors of 1,000 KG? What potential problems related to the fall of
the cable, the impact with the tower and the coiling up of the still
falling cable on the ground while the cargo is being attached to the
cable end?
