Why is Google Groups the most popular way to post ? Is it because
they haven't heard of slrn or my X.ZIP ?

It's [ idyllic and hyperspiffy and stuff ]

And as to "not knowing computers", uh, these are math and physics
groups, not computer groups, so who cares whether a poster is a
computer expert or a computer cipher?  Knowing how to backtrace the
stack in Ada isn't going to help with understanding renormalization,
for instance.

In Sci.Phyics, last 2 months, these

nyms used Google Groups to post:

Of these, Gisse, pmb, Porat, PD, and Schoenfield are apparently posting
under their own names or initials, and have been using the same
"handles" for many years.  Most (but not all) of the rest in this block
of names are posting from stable accounts which haven't changed in a
long time, and are legitimate posters, not trying to evade anything by
using Google.

The rest of the blocks of names you've given here look about the same
-- about half the posters are totally legit, and many are posting under
their own names or initials.

So, who cares if they use Google?  What's the beef?

And very few people know that Google sends a $100.00 check to the sender
for every post made! Honest!

Not if they don't have your correct address on file.

And I won't even say what they paid me for the plug I gave them in my
previous post.
