The silly debate about 0.999... is discussed exhaustively in the
Wikipedia article entitled, strangely,
"0.999..."

The article gives several airtight proofs that 0.999... = 1 exactly,
and ends with the inside joke:

Q How nany mathematicians does it take to change a light bulb?

A 0.999...

More seriously, it discusses the psychological reasons why many
beginners make the mistake of believing 0.999... is less than 1.

Some just say that logic is wrong.

If you ask them to divide 1 by 9, they see that it repeats
indefinitely.  Then when you multiply both sides by 9, they can't
think of anything to say except "No, it can't be true!"

Uncle Ben

Uncle "Dr." Bonehead runs away when faced with anything that disagrees
with his religion.

Q. How many physicists does it take to make
the speed of light from A to B  be c-v,
the speed of light from B to A  be c+v,
the "time" each way the same?

A. None, there are no physicists capable. Only the Lord St. Rabbi Einstein
can do so and he was a wanker.

What does Wackypedia say?
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_relativity

"Special relativity is based on two postulates which are contradictory in
classical mechanics:
1.. The laws of physics are the same for all observers in uniform motion
relative to one another (Galileo's principle of relativity),
2.. The speed of light in a vacuum is the same for all observers,
regardless of their relative motion or of the motion of the source of the
light."
But we (Androcles, Bonehead and Bean van lentil) now know that wackypedia is
wrong, don't we, Bonehead?

  Missing postulate:
     3. the ``time'' required by light to travel from A to B equals the
``time'' it requires to travel from B to A.

 http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/postulate

Latin postulatus, past participle of postulare; akin to Latin poscere to
ask, Old High German forscon to search, Sanskrit pr?cchati he asks - more at
pray
Date:
1593
1: demand, claim
2 a: to assume or claim as true, existent, or necessary : depend upon or
start from the postulate of
b: to assume as a postulate or axiom (as in logic or mathematics)

Q. Why is the third postulate not listed?
A. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Einstein,
and the Word was Einstein. (John 1:1)
Postulates shalt thou count, and the number of the count shall be two.
Countest thou not to three, for that is naughty in my sight. -- The Holey
Word of St. Rabbi Einstein.

Seems wackypedia can't count to 2.\9\+h either.
 ('\' = 'recurring' in Androcles' notation.    1/7 = 0.\142857\)

Snip and run away, Bonehead.

- Androcles.
'There is nothing so easy but that it becomes difficult when you do it with
reluctance.'- Marcus Tullius Cicero
'Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from mediocre
minds.' -Mediocre Albert Einstein

In Adrocles' own words:

Seems wackypedia can't count to 2.\9\+h either.
('\' = 'recurring' in Androcles' notation. 1/7 = 0.\142857\)

If 1/7 = 0.\142857\

and we multply both sides by 7, we get

1 = 0.\999999\

QED

I rest my case.
