I'm not sure how a/b fits into this but if you take the equation p = 1
and graph it on the (u,p) plane then u is the independent variable, p
is the dependent variable and p is a function of u.
In other words, I want to graph this equation by saying "if a chose
any arbitrary value for u, what is the value of p". In this case it's
always 1 but the point is I chose any value for U then determine the
value of p. u is the independent variable, it's not constrained by
anything, p is the dependent variable, it's constrained by (i.e.
depends on) u (in this case it's very constrained, it's always 1)
