Number of degrees of freedom of a quantum theory

    Just what exactly do people mean when they write about the number of
    degrees of freedom of a quantum theory is let's say N, 2N, finite,
    countably infinite, uncountably infinite, etc.? Aren't all separable
    Hilbert spaces isomorphic?
