Particle accelerators for sale?

Hi All,

Suppose for a moment, that as a bored computer programmer, I one day
decided to refresh my memory about partile physics. Suppose further,
that in the process, I decided to view light as a stream of particles
and came up with formulae to calculate both the diameter and mass of
these particles. How would I go about testing these results
experimentally? (Last I checked, Amazon.com wasn't stocking up on
particle accelerators, so I need something more, er, affordable!).
