I've just noticed that the format of my reply is rather confusing, so I
hope the moderator will allow me to add an explanatory note. Apparently
the equals sign is not English, and the software has added '3D' after
each of them, just as it has converted the German o-umlaut into
'[equals]F6'.

Moderator, if you know how, could you add a note explaining how
mathematical and non-English symbols can be incorporated into a post so
as to guarantee that they won't be turned into gibberish? If it were
possible to specify UTF-8 (Unicode), that would be wonderful.
