To get some essential understanding of general relativity you may read
one of the good textbooks mentioned by others. To get a clear concrete
understanding of general relativity you may want to strengthen your
knowledge of special relativity and differential geometry. You need to
solve simple problems in these subjects. Make sure you make your self
familiar (google it) with 'Principle of equivalence' which is a
founding philosophical idea of general relativity. It is also good to
be knowledgable about Maxwell theory of electromagnetism.
