de Broglie waves

Say you wanted to calculate the phase velocity of de Broglie waves.
There are three key relations:
nu = E / h
lambda = h/mv
and
w = nu.lambda.
These give w = E /mv.
But what should then be plugged in for E?
Is it E = mc^2 giving w = c^2/v ??
Or is it E = 1/2 m v^2 giving w = v/2 ??
I've spoken to a couple of physicists about this and each gives a
different answer. Is there a definitive answer or is it subjective?
Thanks,
David.
