Djurfeldt <mdjurfeldt@xxxxxxxxx> writes:
In discussions about consciousness there is sometimes mentioned a
concept originated by Roger Penrose: "objective reduction". As I
understand it, it is the idea that a quantum system with energy E, and
in a superposition of states with relatively displaced mass, gets its
wave-function collapsed within a time intervall t=h/E, even if kept in
isolation. The reason for this should be properties of space-time
itself.
This seems experimentally testable. Has anyone done it? Are there any
attempts going on?
A few years ago, I heard a talk by Penrose in Groningen. He mentioned
that he was planning a collaboration with Anton Zeilinger involving a
space-based experiment which should be able to distinguish between his
interpretation of QM and other interpretations. (Actually, if one can
experimentally distinguish between them, then they are no longer merely
different interpretations.)
