This seems very similar to the paradoxes in Special Relativity. If we
take the rod falling into a hole (old as the hills) we can see that
the paradox is resolved since information about the hole cannot travel
along the rod at > c.
In a hyperelastic string the speed of sound (or vibrations travelling
up and down) > c. It must be if you are going to stick a rod through
an event horizon.
All the materials we are familiar with get their properties through
the EM force and quantum electrodynamics. This cannot operate through
an EH for obvious reasons.
