Physically reasonable spacetime?
In communications with mathematicians about the purely theoretical
possiility of mutually canceling spacetime / anti-spacetime pairs, I
learned from a topologist that with "groups of homotopy spheres", one
could "patch one exotic sphere into an ordinary slab of spacetime,
producing an exotic slab of spacetime. If this slab were followed by
one with the inverse (anti) sphere patched in, the result would be a
topologically ordinary slab of spacetime."
These exotic spheres exist in dimensions 7 and higher. It was unclear
whether such manifolds were suitable for actual physics.
So, I ask here is it possible that such spacetimes could support
physically reasonable cosmologies? Or if not these, has any
work been done on other kinds of physically plausible pairings
of manifolds?
