The stars do it with gravity. We don't have it earth side. You will
notice I said -controlled- fusion. That means man made. We cannot
squeeze deuterium hard enough for a sustained neutron yield.

Controlled fusion will always be twentyfive or thirty years into the
future. But what do we do -now- to break our filthy petroleum habit?
Start building relatively safe fission reactors (designs for safe
reactors already exist). Drill into the moho discontinuity and get to
the magma and bring heat up from the center of the Earth. There is
plenty there for us to use.
