Edison discovered the "Edison Effect"
which introduced the world to unidirectional current flow,
which lead to the invention of the triode,
which lead to the invention of the transistor,
which lead to the invention of integrated circuits,
which lead to the invention of the microprocessor, etc.
The Edison effect,
Volta's the invention of the battery,
and Galileo's discovery of the pendulum
were perhaps the greatest discoveries of all times,
as they revolutionized science, and culture.
The breakthroughs in man's knowledge of reality
come from detailed observations of divers experiments,
NOT from trying to prove some model.
Edison and Faraday were tops at this,
and made many discoveries that
improved man's knowledge of reality,
provided grist for the model makers like Maxwell and Einstein,
and improved the lot of mankind.
As I indicated,
The most viable, cost-effect, productive way to
conduct experiments, is to follow artifact,
rather than follow some model.
Models are strongly biased,
by religion, nationality and ethnicity,
and races, religions and nations
spend an enormous amount of time
trying to promote models that
enhance their prestige, and promote their agenda.
Models follow discovery,
rather than the other way around.
BTW, Edison also invented practical ways to
sound and pictures (The phonograph and movies.),
and these stimulated advances in numerous other areas.
