A program called "issearch"
indexes most of the files on your disk drives,
and it will instantly find articles of interest,
using a Google style keywords search.
It indexes txt, Word, HTM, PPT, and some other file types,
but it doesn't index PDF files. If this was critical,
you could convert the PDF files to HTM or DOC files.
It is shareware and only costs about $20.00.
You may need Windows XP to use it,
as it uses the Windows indexing system.
Issearch is also very useful for finding junk files
and cleaning up your drives, and for finding
forgotten information, and browsing temp files.
I use another program InfoNymph
to reorganize files for long term use.
InfoNymph allows you to organize your files
into an outline format, and to password protect
whatever you organize.
It also provides an instant view of
JPG, TXT, HTM and some other files,
and loads the appropriate viewer
if it does not have an internal viewer.
One nice feature is that files dragged
into the program can be linked,
or copied and compressed, instantly.
In other words, you can drag a lot of
junk files into the program, and they will be
incorporated into the master zipped database,
thus you can delete all the dragged in files,
and eliminate the clutter.
