I don't really have a strong opinion one way or the other about the extent
of scientific collaboration between Mileva and Albert. But I find the
introductory paragraph of the PBS web site to be annoying in the way it
'spins' the 'facts'. Does anyone else feel this way? Here's the paragraph.

Who was Mileva Maric? Why was she erased
from Einstein's life story? What significance
does she have? At the crux of these questions
are Einstein's revolutionary work of 1905 and
the possibility that Maric was his scientific
   collaborator. Einstein's autobiographies never
mentioned his first wife. The world only
learned of her existence through the first
release of Einstein's private letters in 1987.
This project invites you to explore the known
facts of Mileva Maric's life and consider the
  possibilities.

Now consider some of these statements.

^^Why was she erased from Einstein's life story?^^
What is meant by this? Virtually every biography of Einstein that I've read
includes material on Mileva (usually more on Mileva than any other family
member). I can't understand in what sense she's been 'erased'.

^^Einstein's autobiographies never mentioned his first wife.^^
I'm only familiar with one 'autobiography' - namely, Einstein's
autobiographical notes. True, he never mentions his first wife in this
document. But I don't believe he ever mentions his second wife (Elsa)
either. Nor does he mention his sons or daughter(s). There is hardly any
mention of his parents (just a brief reference to his parents being Jewish
and a statement that when he was 4 or 5 years old his father gave him a
compass.) Thus, we should not make very much out of the fact that Mileva
isn't mentioned here.

^^The world only learned of her existence through the first release of
Einstein's private letters in 1987.^^
This is clearly nonsense if 'her' refers to Mileva. I imagine this
statement was actually meant to refer to Albert and Mileva's daughter,
Lieserl. Anyway, the statement is very misleading as written.

OK, I know...why should anyone be surprised that the material on the web
page is 'hyped' in order to spark the reader's interest. It just bugs me.
