Others have expressed it more formally, but I can never remember all the
details, so I would say . . .
Very crudely, Power is Force x Velocity
The gearing allows the power either to be applied as a large force at a
low velocity, or a smaller force at a higher velocity.
100hp is a fixed measure of the maximum power available.
