So if we currently say:

"Space and time are relative; the properties of matter don't exist
until you observe it."

And instead if we currently said:

"space and time and matter are relative."

Then we're dealing with less ideas that are more generally applicable.
I think that pursuing dialouge from this statement on may lead to
revelations about the unification problem, but as of yet no one has
entertained my suggestion :-)

The second reason is dark matter. I've written about this in past
threads.

But for now, we'll just assume that the simplification of scientific
principles and possibility for unification is good enough. Can you
think of any reason critical problems with the statement "matter is
relative"?
