I wouldn't call claims that fridge magnets/gravity violate conservation of
energy because they produce force with no known power source "strong
mathematical arguments." It's either a naive confusion of the concepts of
force and energy, or a willingless to exploit that naive confusion in
order to sell books.

True, Newtonian gravity does assume instantaneous propagation of
gravitational effects, but since it's already accepted that Newtonian
gravity is not correct (but is usually a good approximation), it's a
rather pointless target to attack.
