If you can imagine a universe without man, but
  1) still containing *yourself* to ask such questions, and
  2) where time is still "derived from nature",
then ask yourself who would be *doing* this "deriving from
nature".

First, why should we have control?
Second, what is wrong with "crude and artificial" control,
if it allows us to put our species on our moon and bring it
back alive?

Wearing trousers is artificial as well. What is wrong with

By us it is defined and measured by using clocks, and there are
many types of clocks... haert beat, wrist watch, atomic clocks,
seasons, night and day, lighthouses, spinning neutron stars, ...
It seems to work rather well, don't you agree?
