Dena vue and much more dramatic.
During the latter phases of WWII, the Germans detonated Hg
filled AAA shells against our B17/24/26 Bombers. The planes
flew thru these clouds of Hg and some 30 minutes later their
wings fell off. -- The problem was immediately identified by
the white AlO(OH)/ Al2O3 bloom on the Alu surfaces and
countermanded simply by lacquering/painting the alu skins.
