Hi Rob Say the breaking point of the string is 10 LB plus an ounce. The
string can lift of the ground 10LB Now lift the weight up 3 inches
with your hands and that gives three inches of slack to the string, Now
drop the weight and the string will be sure to break. That little speed
created by gravity accelerating the object(weight) did the trick. The
string was broken by weight and speed for they gave enough force to
break the string. I fudged a little but only Sam will care. Bert
