This subject is not physics but the depth of concern in the States on
this matter is worrying.
This problem seems to be related to religion but if you have ever been
to the Middle East you will know it is really about Israel.
Having travelled all over the middle east, I have been harangued by all
levels of mid-east society on the injustice of Israel. To the Arabs the
Balfour declaration promised a multi-cultural Israel but this did not
happen. Instead Israel, as a society divided by religion, was supported
by the US from the very day of its declaration of independence. In
those days the US wanted a cold war ally in the mid east and turned a
blind eye to the invasion of an arab state, as did the UK and France.
The UN has condemned every stage of the establishment of Israel so the
Arabs are not the only ones who feel an injustice has been perpetrated.
Simply saying that Israel is democratic and the Arabs are not does not
answer the grief of a people who have been disposessed. We must solve
the Arab Israeli problem if we are to stop terrorism.
