By the way, the spacing of train tracks actually goes all the way back
to standard spacing of cart wheels in the Roman empire, so that the
wheels would follow the same ruts in the road and not wreck their axles
with unnecessary shock. The cart makers became the train makers, but i
don't think the carts had such rigid schedules.
