But they do that to maximise efficiency. You want the strongest field you
can get so that you can reduce the number of turns in the windings - the
more turns you need the greater the resistance. One way to do that is to
reduce the air gap and "focus" the field using iron pole pieces. How do you
eliminate the resistive losses in the copper windings in your design?

That suggests you don't understand how back emf is created. It's _not_ an
"interferrence between two fields" so seperating the coils would have no
effect. Back emf is created within the drive coil itself - how can you
seperate something from itself?
